Ruslana is not widely known in America but is a big star in Eastern Europe and her home country of the Ukraine.
We would like to offer our support to the people of Ukraine. We hope the conflict in Ukraine can be brought to an end as soon as possible.
What is interesting about Ruslana to us is that she played a role in helping to bring down the government in the Ukraine in 2004. A picture of the huge demonstration in Kiev that she participated in is below.
While the “Orange Revolution” has not worked as planned, it showed how music could be used for political purposes.
Today, the world political order is failing on a scale far greater than the government of the Ukraine in 2004. It is destroying the biological foundations of life on our planet and presiding over the greatest mass murder of other species in history. If this wasn’t bad enough, it has now shown itself to be totally incompetent in handling economic matters, and the world is entering the greatest economic collapse since the 1930’s or maybe even worse.
All this means that musicians cannot sit idly by as things collapse.

In the case of Ruslana, look in particular at her Dances with Wolves video which contains footage of the 2004 Ukrainian Revolution.

Ruslana clearly has not lost her interest in politics. Her latest work deals with the energy crisis. Here is a story about her on NPR. It takes quite a lot of guts to endorse renewable energy in the Ukraine, one of the most coal dependent states in the world.
